GLADS SPLIT A PAIR
The Gladiators opened the season with a solid split against fellow NorCal power Santa Rosa Junior College last week. Chabot took the opener 3-1 on Friday at home, and SRJC rallied for 9-8 victory on Saturday in Santa Rosa.
A big early season test, Santa Rosa won the Big 8 Conference title last season going away with a 23-1 record and finished the season 44-3 overall. Chabot was 28-14 last season and wound up in a three-way title atop the Coast Conference-North, at 11-5, with College of San Mateo and Skyline. Chabot was 28-14 overall.
In Friday's 3-1 win, Terrell Romain was 2 for 3 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored. Evan Yau launched a home run. Chabot got excellent pitching over three innings apiece from Aiden Perry, Declan Casey and Joseph Coupland.
In the 9-8 defeat, Jonathan Shephard was 4 of 5 with two RBI and a stolen base. Romain was 2 of 5 with a double. Cole Jones homered with two RBI and two runs scored. Pitcher Michael Olson worked three shutout innings with four strikeouts.
