The sizzling Chabot men's basketball team opened the Coast Conference-North Division season with back-to-back wins in advance of its showdown this week against district-rival Las Positas.
Las Positas, ranked No. 9 in the state, and Chabot, tied for No. 26, will tangle at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at The Nest in Livermore.
The Glads and Las Positas split games last year, with Chabot winning 90-77 at home after falling 79-73 at Las Positas.
Last week Chabot (13-3, 2-0) took a thriller over No. 21-ranked College of San Mateo 77-75 in overtime at Chabot on Friday, after beating Skyline host Skyline 84-64 on Wednesday.
Sophomore
Zion Yeargin, enjoying a sensational season, led the way against CSM with a rousing triple-double of 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. His buzzer-beater in overtime nearly brought the house down. He is ranked 18th
in the state in scoring at 19.4 points a game, shooting 58.2 percent from the floor. Yeargin was 11 for 17 from the floor against the Bulldogs and helped the Glads shoot 55 percent. Chabot starters shot 50 percent from 3-point range
Oz Savage had 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Nate Stroud added 12 points and four rebounds.
Against Skyline, the Glads bolted to a 50-25 lead by halftime. Stroud finished with a team-high 16 points, and he and Yeargin each had 15 rebounds.
The Glads, riding a four-game winning streak, share first place in the conference with Las Positas and defending state champion City College of San Francisco, ranked No. 1 In the state.
Chabot will also Cañada on Friday, Jan. 16, and will have a huge showdown with CCSF at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21 in Hayward.
In the win over Las Positas last year, Yeargin had 20 points and Amani Johnson had 21. Savage had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
