Gladiators Building Momentum ‘As One'

Chabot College Gladiators Men's Soccer — 2025 Season Update
The Gladiators Men's Soccer team is five matches into the 2025 campaign, carrying a 3-1-1 record and currently riding a three-game unbeaten streak. Chabot has recorded three consecutive clean sheets, with goalkeepers Marcelo Covarrubias and David Gallegos both stepping up to lead that charge.
A Run of Results
The streak began with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against San Joaquin Delta College, where the Gladiators came inches from victory several times, most dramatically striking the crossbar in the dying seconds of the match.
Momentum carried into the next contest, a 1-0 win over College of the Siskiyous, where Jesus Lua Amaya assisted Irvin Ramirez to provide the decisive goal in a scrappy battle.
That set the stage for Chabot's most complete performance of the season so far, a 4-0 road win at College of Marin. Every player who traveled saw action and contributed. Diego Maldonado opened the scoring with a brilliant strike, cutting in from left to right before blasting a shot into the upper corner. In the second half, Marcelo Covarrubias made a jaw-dropping penalty save — catching the shot cleanly — to preserve the shutout. The Gladiators then added three goals, capped by an unforgettable left-footed volley from Jose Magallon, which rocketed into the upper corner and sparked a team-wide celebration.
Building As One
From the sideline, Coach Aguiar praised the team's progress:
"This was a solid stretch of games for us. We've learned a lot about each other and developed physically, tactically, and mentally. The most exciting part has been watching these guys come together as a group. We have a long way to go in the season and a lot of really quality teams left to play. We look forward to the challenge, together as one!"
This growth has been fueled by strong leadership from captains Ezra Lynch, Elvis Enguidanos, Samuel Enguidanos, and Jesus "Chuy" Lua Amaya, who have helped build a culture where the team embodies its mantra of "As One!" on and off the field.
What's Next
After a Tuesday bye, the Gladiators return home for two difficult non-conference matchups:
-
Friday, September 19 vs. American River College
-
Tuesday, September 23 vs. Fresno City College
These contests will serve as the final tune-ups before Chabot begins Coast Conference play on Friday, September 26 against Hartnell College — the first conference fixture always carries weight in shaping the season.
The Gladiators have shown their grit, their unity, and their growing identity. Now, the next challenge awaits.
Go Gladiators!
