Gladiators Push for Playoff Position After Key Win Over Evergreen
The Chabot College Men's Soccer team continues its push toward the postseason with momentum and belief following a critical stretch of conference results that showcased the team's resilience and unity.
Chabot earned a hard-fought 4–2 road win at Gavilan College, showing attacking sharpness in a challenging environment. The Gladiators then faced a setback during a tough week of games, but responded with one of their most impressive performances of the season.
That response came in a 3–2 victory over Evergreen Valley College, a nationally ranked program and the top-ranked team in Northern California entering the match. Evergreen struck first in the 30th minute, but Chabot answered immediately just one minute later when Andrei Zhuze finished a composed equalizer assisted by Emmanuel Silvera.
The momentum continued into the second half as Jose Magallon buried a free kick in the 58th minute to give Chabot a 2–1 lead. Silvera then added what proved to be the match-winning goal in the 65th minute, capping off a strong performance from the Gladiator attack.
Evergreen battled back and made the final minutes intense, but Chabot defended with grit and composure to secure a statement win.
"This was truly a team effort. This was an example of what Gladiator soccer is about," said Head Coach Aguiar. "Evergreen is absolutely a fantastic team—well-coached and skillful. It took contributions from our entire team to get the result. Guys battled through injuries, guys stepped up to fill new roles, it was fun to watch these guys perform that way together!"
With four regular season games remaining, the Gladiators are 7–6–3 overall and 4–4–1 in Coast Conference play. The playoff race remains highly competitive, and every point will matter down the stretch.
"We have battled to put ourselves in the playoff picture," Coach Aguiar added. "Every one of these remaining games is against a strong team. We hope to keep improving and keep ourselves in that playoff spot. One thing is for sure—we will do it together, as a team, As One!"
