Geoff Aguiar, a former Chabot College student with over a decade of collegiate coaching experience, has been named the head coach of the Gladiators men’s soccer program.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have the honor and privilege to coach the soccer team here at Chabot. This program has a lot of historical success and this college is a special place. I can’t thank Jeff Drouin and the administration enough for this opportunity. I am looking forward to Chabot men’s soccer being a valuable part of our community and to create opportunities for our student-athletes to see success.”

A product of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, Aguiar was a Coast Conference Player of the Year and an All-Far West Region player before continuing to play at Dominican University. Aguiar then transferred to complete his Bachelor’s and Master’s at CSU, East Bay. Beginning his coaching career at Las Positas, Aguiar helped lead the team to a Coast Conference title in 2013 before taking over the men’s program at Merritt College in 2016. While at Merritt, Aguiar led the program from last place in the conference to a conference championship in 2018. In 2019, Aguiar began a similar rebuild of the men’s and women’s programs at College of Marin, with both programs seeing immediate improvement.

Aguiar believes improvement comes by helping student-athletes to achieve their goals, both on the field and in the classroom. He explains, “if we continue to put effort in and do things the right way, success will follow us.”

In addition to community college, Aguiar has coached at Dominican University, where the Penguins won their first Division 2 title this past fall. Aguiar has also coached the club level and Olympic Development Program. Many of the players Aguiar has coached have gone on to have success at the collegiate level.

In reflecting on taking the job at Chabot, Aguiar has a lot of pride in his connection to the campus. “Chabot College is a big reason why I have become the person, the player, and the coach that I am. I attended Chabot Soccer camps as a young player, I was a student at Chabot, and I trained here in preparation for playing at the four-year college level. Chabot is home to me. We have an incredible foundation of club and high school coaches and programs in this area. I am excited to work together for our student-athletes to transfer to four-year institutions and to have competitive success on the field.”

Since 2023, the team has experienced remarkable progress each season, marked by significant achievements and continuous improvement. A central focus has been building team cohesion, with the "As One" mindset becoming a defining characteristic of the team’s identity. This collective spirit has enabled the Gladiators to compete fiercely against some of the best programs in the state.

Throughout the years, many Gladiators have successfully transitioned to the next level, continuing their careers at four-year institutions—a testament to the program’s commitment to development and excellence. One of the most notable milestones was reached in 2026, when the team qualified for the CCCAA playoffs, a significant achievement that highlights the team's growth and potential. The program looks forward to building on this momentum, with excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead.
