CHABOT WOMEN RISE TO CHALLENGE
The Chabot women's soccer team had a week to remember, notching a 1-0-1 record against quality opposition.
In what head coach Dan Chubbock called "probably our performance of the season," the Gladiators (6-2-3, 1-0-3 Coast-North) battled
highly touted Evergreen Valley-San Jose to a 0-0 draw in San Jose on Friday, Oct. 10.
Chabot also had a strong performance in a 3-0 win over De Anza on goals by Ashley Tinoco, Alexa Perez and Abigail Lopez. Those with assists were Wendy Son-Garcia, Lopez and Kiana Ayllon.
The Evergreen Valley effort featured heroic goalkeeper play from Jessie Lighthill, who had nine saves including three stops back-to-back in the first half to keep it scoreless. Defender Alekxa Gonzalez-Serrano had a "huge performance and was "outstanding throughout," Chubbock said.
The teams both created chances, but the keepers would not be denied.
Evergreen Valley was ranked 19th in the state in the most recent poll.
"Really impressed with our work rate and execution of a game plan," Chubbock said. "A win would have been amazing, but to get anything at Evergreen is massive. They will be in playoffs for sure, and we are showing that Chabot can hang too!" Chubbock declared.
Against hardworking De Anza, Chabot had most of the possession and created enough chances to "wrap the game up" but was not clinical enough, Chubbock said.
"Happy with how we played though and got the job done," he added.
Chabot will face even tougher tests this week at Coast-North-leading CCSF, ranked fifth in the state, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, and at home against No. 11 Cañada on Friday, Oct. 17. Both will start at 4 p.m.
