GLADS MAKE IT 5 IN A ROW
The Chabot baseball team entered the week riding a five-game winning streak in the Coast Conference-North Division. The Glads (10-15, 5-1) swept a three-game series from City College of San Francisco after taking two of three against Cañada.
They're 7-2 in March heading to a three-game series with De Anza this week. The pitching delivered in a 4-2 road win over CCSF at Maloney Field on Friday, March 20. Edward Zacharia Said allowed two hits over 6.0 innings, striking out three and walking one. Reliever Joshua Van Loon tossed two hitless innings with two strikeouts and one walk. Chabot scored all of its runs over the first three innings. Luca Boccasile had a two-run single in the first, Juan Pablo Manzo an RBI single in the second, and Terrell Scott-Romain slugged a solo homer in the third.
Chabot also beat CCSF 8-2 and 9-7 in the series.
In the 9-7 win at Steve Friend Stadium, the Glads broke a 7-7 tie with two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a solo shot by Boccasile after Jonathan Sheppard scored on a passed ball. Manzo was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI. Leadoff Riley Winchell and centerfielder Sheppard both tripled.
In the 8-2 win, Winchell doubled twice, and Coupland was 3 for 4 with a double. Starter Chase McGill allowed two hits and fanned three over 3.0 innings. Reliever Carlos Hernandez was excellent over 4.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs, striking out three. Third baseman Elijah Cernak added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
