Gladiators Weekly Update
Strength and Honor! The Chabot College Gladiators Men’s Soccer team continued Coast Conference play last week with two competitive matches that showcased resilience, teamwork, and growing momentum as the season enters its final stretch.
Cabrillo Match – Battling for a Draw
The Gladiators opened the week against an excellent Cabrillo College side. The Seahawks came out strong and took an early 1-0 lead, but Chabot responded with determination. After a hard-fought first half, the Gladiators found their rhythm in the second, playing more cohesively and creating several quality chances.
Their persistence paid off in the 64th minute, when Emmanuel Silveira equalized, finishing a play assisted by Diego Maldonado. The two teams traded opportunities down the stretch, but the score remained level at 1-1.
Goalkeeper David Gallegos anchored the Gladiators with a composed performance, recording five saves and organizing the defense effectively throughout the match.
Ohlone Match – Three Points Earned at Home
Chabot returned home later in the week to host Ohline College and from the opening whistle, the Gladiators were on the front foot. They created multiple scoring chances in the first half but couldn't find the breakthrough before halftime.
The breakthrough finally came in the 63rd minute when Brandon Espinoza scored the game's only goal, assisted by Jesus 'Chuy' Lua Amaya. Chabot controlled much of the match and limited Ohlone's opportunities, while goalkeeper Marcelo Covarrubias contributed two key saves to secure the clean sheet.
The 1-0 victory marked a strong end to the week and another confident defensive display.
From Coach Aguiar
"A week with a win and a tie in this conference is almost always a good thing, and this was no exception. Two solid team performances that saw contributions across the board from the team. The 'togetherness' of this group was on display this week, and it's something we will need moving forward with so many difficult conference games to go."
Looking Ahead
The Gladiators will travel to Gavilan College on Tuesday for their only match of the week. With eight games remaining, Chabot holds a 5-4-3 overall record and a 2-2-1 record in Coast Conference competition.
The focus now turns to maintaining momentum and continuing to build As One!!
Go Gladiators!!
