GLADS SHINE IN COAST OPENER
The Chabot women's soccer team played well enough to win against district-rival Las Positas on Tuesday, settling for a 1-1 draw in the Gladiators' Coast Conference opener.
"Both teams came to play, and it was an entertaining game with some physical and fast-paced play," Chabot head coach Dan Chubbock said. "I'm really happy with how we played and moved the ball. We did a great job of exploiting space in wide areas and pulling them out of position."
The host Glads (5-2-2, 0-0-1) struck first on a goal in the sixth minute by Kiana Ayllon assisted by Abigail Lopez. Las Positas equalized in the 57th minute on a free kick.
Overall, it was big improvement for Chabot from a 3-0 nonconference loss at Las Positas on Sept. 12. Chubbock saw a lot to like in Tuesday's entertaining rematch.
"On another day, we win that game, but huge improvement from the nonconference game," he said.
The Glads are home again on Friday, Oct. 3 against Foothill (4 p.m.).
Last week, Chabot fell to a strong American River College 3-0 and dominated Woodland in a 2-0 triumph.
Against ARC, Chabot struggled to keep possession against an opponent that pressed "really well," Chubbock said. ARC scored in the 39th, 72nd and 89th minutes.
It was a different story against Woodland on Friday, when Chabot had 67% of the possession. The Glads struck on goals by Ayllon and Lopez in the 72nd and 78th minutes. Ayllon scored off a cross from Julie Lemoine, and Lopez struck on a link up with Ayllon.
"Really nice to see how we can play and control a game," Chubbock said.
