DRIVEN TO SOCCER SUCCESS
The Chabot women's soccer team continued to show great progress under head coach Dan Chubbock.
The Glads closed out October play with gusto, notching three consecutive road wins and now stand at 9-4-4 overall and 4-2-3 in the Coast-North.
"Really proud of the ladies and the program, and let's see if we can get a couple more W's!" Chubbock declared.
Chabot capped the road run with a 2-0 triumph at Cabrillo on Tuesday, Oct. 28, on goals by stalwarts Abigail Lopez and Kiana Ayllon, who also had an assist. Top keeper Jessie Lighthill made eight saves in the shutout.
Ayllon is tied for No. 3 in the state in goals with 16 and fifth in points with 39. She has seven assists.
"Really good run of results and some solid performances to match," Chubbock said. "Jessie was outstanding between the sticks and kept us in it in the second half."
That effort followed wins over Skyline and Gavilan, both by 4-1 scores.
Ayllon, enjoying a brilliant season, struck twice against Gavilan and had two assists. Lopez added a goal and an assist, and Yocelin Bolvito-Perez also scored.
Against Skyline, Chabot showed true grit by scoring four straight goals after falling behind 1-0. Ayllon scored twice and Lopez had two goals and an assist. Julie Lemoine had an assist.
"Against Skyline, it was one of the highlights of the season," Chubbock said. "We went a goal down against the run of play, but responded within a minute to equalize and then there was only going to be one winner."
The Glads carved out a result against Gavilan on a poor field against a determined opponent.
"We can enjoy a week off from games, with our bye and canceled Ohlone game," Chubbock said. "This will give us time to prepare to face Hartnell, which is 7-0-0 in league, in our final home conference game."
