GLADS POWER PAST RIVAL CSM
The Chabot baseball team hammered College of San Mateo 14-4 on Friday, April 3 in the Coast Conference-North Division to earn its fourth consecutive series win.
Riley Winchell, batting cleanup, led the way with six RBIs, going 3 for 6 with a double. Luca Boccasile was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Starting pitcher Edward Said was clutch, tossing 5.1 shutout innings to get the win, walking three and striking out three.
Reliever Sean Cannon threw 1.1 innings, allowing no hits and no runs and striking out one. Ethan Smith also tossed a scoreless inning, striking out one and allowing no hits.
Chabot (14-17, 9-3) has a huge series this week against first-place Skyline (26-6, 10-2). The teams will meet at Chabot's Steve Friend Stadium at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, and then will play Thursday at Skyline and Friday at Chabot, both games at 2:30 p.m.
The Glads took command with four runs in the top of the first against CSM, a longtime rival.
Chabot had strong production up and down the lineup. Leadoff Braden Spade drove in two runs, Joe Coupland was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI, and Jonathan Sheppard, batting third, was 2 for 4 with two doubles and three runs scored.
Chabot opened the series with CSM with a 6-3 win on March 31, and then the Bulldogs took a 4-0 win before Chabot won the series decider.
In the decisive first inning on Friday, Winchell had a two-run single and scored on Romain's sacrifice fly to center.
Winchell leads the conference in home runs with eight and is third in RBIs with 31. Chabot's Terrell Romain tops the conference in stolen bases with 23, four more than Sheppard. Boccasile also had an RBI, as the Glads pounded out 13 hits.
In Chabot's 6-3 win over CSM, Sheppard was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop Braden Spade had two hits and three RBIs.
Coupland was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a double. Starting pitcher Chase McGill was solid, allowing one hit and one run over 3.0 innings. Josh Van Loon went the rest of way and allowed two earned runs and fanned five.
